Week 5 - 24 August 2017 - Email Newsnote

Kia ora koutou

Thank you to everyone who came to the Parent Workshop on Student Wellbeing on Tuesday night.  It was great to share our positive education strategies and learning with you!  Watch out for next week's newsletter.

REMINDER - no school tomorrow!  (Friday 25 August)  Enjoy the extra long weekend!

Small group Student-Led conferences coming up (aka SLCs)

Student-Led conferences are a social and informal opportunity for your child to share their learning and success with you.  It is always great to see the children really take charge of the conversation. If we reflect on our Positive Education model these SLCs tick many boxes ! Positive Education being  The science of wellbeing combined with best practice teaching.

This year, Mahutonga/Matariki and Tautoru have three days set aside for these You will be booking in groups  (children + their parents) for 30 minute slots during the morning.  Your child will lead you through a variety of pieces of work, with prompting from you and maybe also a teacher as they mingle amongst you all.

Following this you will have an opportunity to experience learning in action as part of the great learning treasure hunt of 2017.

Please book your session and diary either

Friday 15 September,   Monday 18 September, or  Thursday 21 September
Please follow the instructions below on how to book:

Enter Event Code: yu6bb
Please book a time with the area where you child is (Tautoru or Mahutonga/Matariki).

Eastern Zones Swimming - Tuesday 29 August

We are taking a team of 26 students to the Eastern Zone Swimming Sports on Tuesday 29 August. Because of the popularity of the event across the zone, we only take the two top qualifiers in each race, in each age bracket. No child can enter more than 3 races. Most age brackets will have a relay team also so some may have up to four events in total.

The meet will be held at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Kilbirnie starting at 9:30am with the championship events followed by the relays to finish at approximately 1:00pm. All competitors will need to be ready to race and be seated by 9.15am. This means leaving school at 8.50am.

On the day, your child will need to bring their togs, towel, goggles and swimming cap (if they wear one). It would also be good if they could wear their Worser Bay School sports t-shirt over the top of their togs. They will need to bring morning tea, drink bottle and warm jumper for when they leave the pools.

We will need some adult support - two timers and one backstroke support person. We are also arranging private transport to keep costs down. Please indicate ASAP if you are available to assist with transport to and from the pool on the day and whether you are willing to undertake another of the roles mentioned above. Please email John to indicate your availability.

There is a small charge of $1.50 per child. Please pay and give permission via Online Payments on our website.

Junior School - ASB Sports Centre Visits - Tues 29 Aug and Tues 26 Sept

On Tuesday 29 August and Tuesday 26 September, we are taking the Junior school (Autahi and Tautoru) to the ASB Sports Centre as part of our Inquiry into the body.... relating it to using different muscles, keeping fit and trying new things. We will be participating in sports like Gymnastics, Athletics, Floorball and Futsal. The cost per child is $13.00 per child. Please pay and give permission via Online Payments on our website.

The children will need to wear clothes that are suitable for exercise and bring a drink bottle and plenty of food for morning tea and lunch.

We will need parent helpers on the trip, so if anyone is keen for a day of fun and exercise, please let your child’s base group teacher know.

Orange Day Parade - Friday 1 September

Our Year 5 and 6 Road Patrollers will march for Road Safety from 10am to midday on Friday 1st September. Students will leave school at 9am and will arrive back by 1pm.

Please provide permission via Online Payments on our website. There is no charge for the bus.

Pizza Lunch - Wednesday 6 September

On Wednesday 6 September, small individual pizzas, made in our own pizza ovens, will be available for lunch. All pizzas have a tomato sauce base and you can choose from three types of topping:
  • Cheese
  • Cheese and Ham
  • Cheese and Salami
Pizzas cost $5 each. Please order via Online Payments on our website. Orders are due by midnight on Monday 4 September. (Note the earlier cut off time!)

Year 6 Only - EBIS School Production - Monday 11 September

On Monday 11 September, the Year 6s have been invited to attend the EBIS School Production matinee of "The Island". We will be travelling by bus to and from EBIS. There is a cost of $8. Please pay via Online Payments on our website by Wednesday 6 September

Year 3 & 4 Sleepover - Thursday 28 September

It is nearly time for the much anticipated Year 3 & 4 Sleepover on Thursday 28 September - the last Thursday of Term 3! The finer details will be provided soon. We will need a number of parents to stay over and this needs to get sorted ASAP due to the regulations around safety checking, etc. The pressure is on - you wouldn't want to miss out on a major social highlight!

If you want a head start on your holiday, children won't be expected to be at school on the Friday, which is essentially a pack up day.

Please get in touch with Shona if you are keen to help by staying over on the night.
