In the words of the wonderful Dr Seuss "How did it get so late so soon?!"

Welcome to the final Newsletter of 2016...... what a whirlwind of a year, with everything going on in terms of earth movement and politics of late, it's good to know we just keep things rockin' on an even keel up here, we just keep on going!

This is a great testament to our staff, our kids and you - our incredibly supportive and caring community!

He tangata! He tangata !He tangata!

How great to have the opportunity to get together with Year 6 parents last night, while the children were over indulging in all things delicious at their 'Idols and Dream Jobs Dinner'. Some of these parents' faces have been around for quite some time and it's always a bit of a pull on the heartstrings saying a farewell each year. But - we have many 'boomerangs' and, at some stage, many 'come back'. Let's face it, Miramar is small as well, so very little chance of escape.

Please come to THE WRAP - WEDNESDAY 14 DECEMBER 5.30 sharp. This is when you will all have the opportunity to farewell our Year 6s, teachers Hamish and Kath before they 'go bush!', and, of course, to celebrate a tremendous year.

Hot on the heels of THE WRAP, we have our last day on Friday 16 December, finishing at 1.00 pm. Please support your child/ren to ensure they have every last piece of their property with them before they leave. We often lock up a bike or a scooter for the holiday period which is when it might be needed most!

SCHOOL STARTS AGAIN FEBRUARY 1, 2017 at 8.55 am sharp!

Please read this week's Newsletter on how to order your Stationery for 2017. The day before school starts, we have a tradition of the 'stationery drop off'. This is a chance to have a chat about the holidays, connect with teachers and other children and parents. It's also a way to allow the first day back to be smoother sailing without the added hassle of 'where the stationery goes!'

The timing is very tight as teachers are into their second professional learning day - so please only come between 9.00-10.00am on Tuesday 31 January, 2017.

Following on from this, we have another tradition - The Family Picnic at Miramar Park - Wednesday 8 February.

Not long after, Goal Setting Meetings take place with the children and yourselves and their base group teacher. Your child/ren spent some time in their new base groups today. We will have these interview bookings ready to go by the end of the first short week of term and will let you know when they open.

The Powhiri, Friday 17 February, is another must do! You will see the invitation in the Newsletter, and, if you are newer to the school and being welcomed, you will have received a separate email invitation.

Recently, I tuned into the end of this radio interview: In his new book Messy, How to Be Creative and Resilient in a Tidy-Minded World, author and BBC presenter Tim Harford explores the surprising advantages of mess, which can develop our creativity and resilience.

Now there's a thought for the holiday period!

Thank you for another wonderful year - together........... we very definitely can!
