The penultimate newsletter for the first half of 2022!

What a fantastic community turn out we had for our Matariki celebration down at the beach last week. It was just so magical. A perfect morning, wonderful colours, the warming vibes of the fire but most of all an opportunity to meet together in a way we haven't been able to for some time. A real stand out for me was the natural way our children just joined in with the waiata, focussed and present, calm and thoughtful... it really was quite something! So thanks to you for making the effort to get up and get down there.

In talking with colleagues it really does feel like we have been able to keep going this term incredibly efficiently. A lot has to do with the fact we are such a tight team, teachers know all of the children and are flexible and able to quickly relocate if a staff member 'goes down'. So in the main, we have managed to keep things business as usual, steady as possible. So I want to take a moment to pause and thank the WBS team for being a 'we' and not a bunch of 'I's'!

Together we can, individually we can't, after all!

The majority of you have had your 1-1 with a teacher recently to discuss your child's progress at this stage in the year, share tips, discuss highlights and concerns and set next steps. We can never underestimate the importance of having at least a couple of meetings scheduled where children are not present. We can be more frank - from home and school - to hopefully make some good decisions for our children looking ahead, Hours of discussion and writing go into these behind the scenes but it is well worth it.

We are looking forward to many more opportunities for getting together in the second half of the year. I'll make next week's piece a bit of a Term 3 'social forecast'.
