We are one of 13 local schools that are part of the Motu Kairangi Kāhui Ako.
For a school our size we are rather well represented amongst the wider team. Both John and Beth are Within School Leads (WSL) working on slightly different literacy research inquiry projects alongside the other 24 WSLs.
Suzanne is one of 3 Across School Lead Teachers (ASLT) - the others being Catherine from Seatoun School and Jacqui from Wellington East College.
Each ASLT works with a group of WSLs to support their work as the schools look to improve literacy and mathematics achievement by using the lenses of equity, engagement, connection and enrichment.
If that’s not enough acronyms, as the Lead Principal of the Kāhui I work mainly with fellow principals, the ASLT team and Ministry of Education personnel to guide the bigger picture work.
As you can imagine it's rather complex and can be challenging as well as interesting.
The aim is for our schools to continue to maintain our own unique flavour and identity and work on the achievement challenges with the range of strengths, experiences and perspectives of the larger group.
One of the best things is the ability to learn from each other and grow a better understanding of the educational journey from early years through to the end of secondary.
In the East we have added challenges as our children don’t ALL follow the same path whereas in a small town there may only be the one or two primaries, the intermediate and the secondary. Ease of transition but yes, less choice.
However, as long as we are on a similar trajectory, focused on similar priorities, learning from each other... it has to be a good thing.
