15 March 2024

Well, we celebrated the return of our Seniors safe and sound and smiling with some tasty treats for morning tea on Monday. Whilst they were getting stuck into life in nature, the rest of the team were 'holding the fort' at # 168. It made me think about how it's the village idea that is deeply embedded here. That's why the Junior team made the effort to head out to Camp for campfire.

"CAMPFIRE - WE LOVE CAMPFIRE hiiiiya!"

Yes, another Worser Bay 'thing', I'm happy to say. The only school, so say Camp Kaitoke, that has this rather unusual tradition passed on through the years. If you haven't witnessed it yet, don't say the word Campfi## in a Senior's vicinity or you are likely to get a chorus back at you! Maybe we can demonstrate at Assembly!

We will finally be having our first Assembly on Friday 22 March. It's usually fortnightly but, due to this on and that on, we haven't been able to coordinate until now! So please come along.

I was thinking about us being the first school on the Peninsula and started looking at the Archives on the weekend and look at the photo I found......,  isn't it great?! Yes - Worser Bay students and staff circa 1903. So, over 120 years ago. It is clear they, too, liked the beach environment, getting out and about and experiencing nature! (Even if these days our clothes are more conducive to it!)

Learning 'outside' and accepting new physical, social and emotional challenges is a part of growing and sometimes - well, actually, often -  it's outside the walls of the classroom that can afford the richest opportunities.

When we asked the children their standouts from Camp, such comments .....

          "Better than best"

          "Challenging and thrilling"

          "Exhilarating"

"The activities helped us conquer our fears"

New connections between children, and staff and children were made/strengthened and, for some, they were surprised with what they are capable of and have brought this 'can do' back into school this week - onwards, folks, onwards!

I'm sure you will hear more from our Seniors at our first Assembly - just don't mention "c#m#f#r#" too often in the meantime!!
