17 November 2023

The Fair. It was months in the making. I remember the initial parent meeting to discuss the 2023 Fair. I remember a relatively small number of people present. I remember the moment when the question was posed - "Well, is there anyone willing to take a lead on this?"

That awkward moment was relatively brief. There were no eyes averted. Instead - one offer of help, two offers of help...., 3...., 4.... and on, and a team was formed with Kelsi at the helm. Big thanks to the entire Fair Organising Committee (and their supportive whānau).

It's like the saying 'it takes a village to raise a child'.... it actually takes the willing, the contributors and the can dos to pull off a Fair like we had.

There are the drivers of the good ship lollypop and then there are all the stall leads and crew that also jump on board. For some it may be for the first time, for some they are past pupils giving back in Worser Bay style. All of the musicians..... all of the sponsors and cheerleaders. We even have past pupils who have travelled from Auckland for Fair Weekend! It's amazing!

Thanks also to our terrific teachers and support staff who were all there giving it their all. Hey, Carl even got soaked for the party!

How proud we can be for what we are able to do - with a will there is a way. With a big will there is a big way!

WE DID IT!

There is just going to be some continued uphill momentum from now until 15 December, the last day of term on the school front. Some of you may feel right now that you need to be 'plugged in' like an electric vehicle but I hope you have got enough endorphins and dopamine rushing around by doing so much good to get you through!  (Maybe we can bottle it for the Silent Auction next time?)

You will be meeting with teachers to discuss your child's progress, you will be chatting about transition to new spaces if you are a Year 1 or 3 parent. This week, we had Rose Ellis visiting on Tuesday. Rose is our newly appointed teacher in Māhutonga Matariki starting next year. She was at the Arts Celebration and the Fair - so is getting well into the swing of things already.

Let's keep each other buoyant on the Worser Bay seas.
