Nau mai, haere mai and a big wide smile from us as we find ourselves one week in to the final school term of 2021.

I've found my mind wandering quite a bit over the last few weeks.... so many what ifs? What if we can have a School Fair? What if we can't? What if we can't do a Year 6 farewell? What if we can't have a School Wrap? What if we can't come to school? What if, what if.... what if! How long is a piece of string! Many what ifs!

It wasn't useful meandering along this well worn path. You may relate to this too. There is so much out of our control at the moment so I guess it's even more important than ever to focus on how we interpret situations for a start and try and seek opportunities where we can.

Along these lines, I came across an article titled:

Expectations are premeditated disappointments: 5 ways to maintain a flexible mindset in an uncertain world.

So, as we go into yet another uncertain term, these tips from Umbrella.org may help.

One of my all time favourites over many many years has been the simple idea of 'Covey's circles' - you may be familiar, but if not.....

We can spend so much time and energy focusing on things that we have very little influence or control over. If we can attempt to physically, or at least mentally, plot the 'things' in the circle they fit, we can start to focus more intently on the things we have an ability to do something about.

So as we head into this new term - with a spring in our step - let's try and sway with where the wind takes us as much as we can. As a community.

PS. I wrote this piece above before the decision had been finalised regarding the School Fair for 14 November. You will know by now that it will be postponed to a date to be decided. The disco has also been cancelled for later this term. So, I guess those are two what ifs less to consider - let's keep being creative!
