25 February 2022

I've been reminiscing about the past. The days when parents were here en masse. Every Monday and Friday for Karakia, every second Friday for whole school Assembly, for Stay and Play, for Parent Workshops in the evenings, for ParentNet Morning Teas, for Pōhiri, for in person Goal Setting, for lots of parent help on class trips, sports practices..... in class help, parents in as 'experts' in class discussions, Open Mornings, Whānau Days. Yes, we took the number of ways of connecting with you for granted, I think! We didn't know anything different!

Like many of you in your own workplaces and homes, we are needing to get more creative about what opportunities we can create as alternatives. We have had pleasant surprises along the way as well. Although it's more difficult to build rapport through the screen, we have been so impressed with the ease of the move to Zoom Goal Setting for example and, although we need to get emotional cues through 'smiling eyes', the feeling in the school, the 'heart stuff', is still strong. Plus, this climate forces us to make changes - some of which may be long lasting and an improved version of before.

As well as our usual comms through the Newsletter, Blog and children's Seesaw, we are going to give you another way of getting more of an 'inside' the teaching and learning at Worser Bay School!

This will take the form of a number of 'curriculum spotlights' - short video clips focusing on the broad, the rich and the varied Worser Bay School Curriculum. We are anticipating these coming out fortnightly over a period of time.

Another first!

On that note, here's to a lovely weekend ahead.
