As many of our senior parents know I am undertaking a low risk experiment on our Year 6 guinea pigs. This doesn't involve beepers, marshmallows or electric shocks. The marshmallow test is an old fave of mind - I would definitely hold out - but more to annoy my younger brother who would've gobbled it all up and have to sit there watching his mean older sister eating ever so slowly in front of him and relishing - in my case - chocolate! I don't think I was doing it out of willpower or self regulation - more as a form of mini-torture!

For more see the marshmallow test.

I had a lot of fun thinking about what I would like the Year 6's to experience over the course of the next 2 terms with me. My aim is for them to leave with a journal that doubles as a treasure trove of reminders, hints, reflections, experiences, goals, theory, practice, some frivolity and plenty of science.

I have named the programme "Flourish - a leadership and coaching programme". First we are starting with self leadership.

To think - when I was about to embark on Intermediate school I had '"finished what I needed to learn" (apparently) and spent the last 2 terms either in the library or tidying Miss Wallaces' cupboards and her years and years worth of dusty old music books.

Now I am truly renowned for my memory - yes - I knew that cupboard inside out. I can 'feel it and smell it' like it was yesterday and not 40+ years ago.

I can guarantee you our Year 6's won't be repeating my Year 6 experience!!
