If I listen to the radio or open the paper, flick on the news on the screen there is sure to be some mention of education - usually involving the word change - sometimes other words too!
We have been here before. I can remember when the curriculum consisted of a large book in different colours for every subject with oodles of objectives, then it went and a streamlined version entered the realm. Too streamlined possibly yes but had some great new thinking in there... we had National Standards and then we didn't. We had X and then we had Y and along comes Z.
"The only thing constant is change" (Heraclitus). This is so true.
What do we do when faced with change? Well there are a range of responses. Talking with colleagues and teachers from other schools it's pretty clear - we are all figuring it out at different rates and levels of understanding... and it's ongoing and will be for some time.
Although we find ourselves here, and I'm sure it could be seen as a bit confusing for you too, we will move on through and clarity will reign. The one thing that hasn't changed is the complete focus on doing the best for each and every learner so that they have every opportunity to flourish in all 'arms of our model'. So there may be a different assessment, a different tool, a different reader... but within this there is a rock. It's heavy, solid and steady.
I am looking forward to one day soon being able to share our Education Review findings with you. I shared the oral feedback in this newsletter HERE
And we are still awaiting the draft to come our way. I doubt it will contain the words heavy, solid or steady but I hope there is a 'manages change effectively!'
We will see...!
