I have been thinking about the flavour of each term.... Term 3 is always a vibrant one. We have the promise of spring alongside a build up to the Arts Celebration. This year, with the emphasis more on Performing Arts, we will hear music, see dance and hopefully feel enlivened by pushing ourselves out of the comfort zones! I'm talking children and staff as well!
Not everyone finds building dance routines fun, I imagine, but what we can guarantee is an inclusive opportunity for all children to collaborate and shine in whatever way suits them. It has to be about opportunity - using strengths and finding passions. As the late Sir Ken Robinson would suggest in his book 'The Element', "How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything".
After last week's Newsletter when I spoke of the feedback I receive about our children doing so well and accepting a plethora of opportunities at EBIS, a parent sent a heart warming email confirming what we know....... the education of the whole child is essential. While we also know and understand academic achievement is central to our work - 'success' in the big sense of the word occurs when children know how to build and keep positive relationships, set goals and work towards them with perseverance and grit!, can self-regulate and manage their emotions, know how to take care of themselves in terms of physical and emotional health, including getting out in nature and dirt or sand between fingers and toes!
As you will have seen in the news, there is a lot for our teachers to get their heads around at the moment.... I'm optimistic they will keep themselves intact by experiencing plenty of joy and positive emotion as they support our children to get ready for the piquancy of Term 3!
